What is the difference in a lifestyle with absolute freedom and one that revolves around a family?

I have to write a compare and contrast essay for english about two different lifestyles. One lifestyle of complete freedom and the other that de-emphasizes individuality in favor of a collective social unit...such as a family, society or government....IM STUCK. I have no idea even where to begin...please help. =]
